Known and Cherished: Finding Hope in a God Who Remembers Your Name

The Power of Being Known

Feeling invisible can be a crushing experience. It’s like sitting on a hard bench, week after week, as someone misremembers your name. I recall those painful piano lessons as a shy 8-year-old, where my teacher consistently called me Linda. I lacked the confidence to correct her, and ironically, I’ve forgotten her name today.

A Song That Resonated

A quote from the musical “I Need a Vacation” resonated deeply with me: “It’s lonely, way out in left field; the coach doesn’t even know my name.” It’s a feeling many of us can relate to – being overlooked and unnoticed. But there’s hope.

A God Who Knows

There is Someone who has always known my name, even before my parents gave it to me. He is all-powerful, and forgetting me is impossible. In fact, He has promised to give me a new name, engraved on a white stone, known only to me (Revelation 2:17). This promise is a reminder that I am seen, heard, and loved.

Redeemed and Cherished

The Lord says, “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine” (Isaiah 43:1 ESV). He paid the ultimate price to redeem me, and I am His. With the King of the universe on my side, I have nothing to fear. If you’re feeling unknown and overlooked, remember that you are known and precious to our wonderful Father.

Getting to Know Him

He knows us inside and out – the good, the bad, and the ugly. Yet, He chooses to love us unconditionally. Take time to get to know Him through His Word and His Holy Spirit. Respond to His love by obeying Him, and discover the joy of being seen and cherished by the One who matters most.
