From Suffering to Redemption: The Power of Faith

The Power of Suffering and Redemption

A Marvelous Singer’s Journey

I’ve been reflecting on the remarkable story of Jerry McGrath, a talented singer who once performed at our staff conferences. Before dedicating his life to serving God, Jerry was a successful artist in the secular entertainment industry. However, his life took a dramatic turn when he was diagnosed with leukemia, forcing him to reevaluate his priorities.

A Miraculous Healing

In a remarkable turn of events, Jerry surrendered his life to the Lord, and God touched and healed him. This experience had a profound impact on Jerry, and he began using his incredible voice to glorify God. During every performance, he would share the story of his miraculous healing, followed by a powerful rendition of “Lord, I want to know You. Deep within my soul, I want to know You more.” The emotional response from the audience was always overwhelming, with not a dry eye in sight.

The Paradox of Suffering and Power

Jerry’s story raises an important question: why do we often pray and sing for God’s power, yet shun the suffering that comes with it? The truth is, we need both to become more like Jesus. We must acknowledge that suffering is an inevitable part of life, as Jesus himself warned us: “In this world, you will have trouble” (John 16:33).

A Prayer for Courage

Father, we confess that we are cowards, often seeking the easy road. Help us not to be surprised when troubles come our way. Instead, may we lean on Your strength and persevere through the trials that shape us into Your image.

Embracing the Fullness of Christ

Jerry’s journey is a powerful reminder that we need both the power of Christ’s resurrection and the refining fire of suffering to become more like Him. May we learn to embrace the fullness of Christ, even in the midst of trials, and may our lives be a testament to His redemptive power.
