A Life of Unexpected Purpose
Growing up in the countryside as an only child, I developed a fondness for solitude. I’d often take long walks in the surrounding fields, or read beneath the low-hanging branches of a cedar tree near my home. Even now, my favorite moments are those spent in quiet contemplation, like this one – sitting at a small wooden table in my favorite café, watching the world go by through the paned window.
A Call to Service
But life had other plans. Over 50 years ago, I experienced a pivotal moment that would change my trajectory forever. It was the night I felt God whispering a profound message: “So send I you.” These words ignited a journey that would take me far beyond the comfort of my solitary existence. The path ahead would be marked by challenges, disappointments, and joys – but also by moments of sorrow, adventure, and fulfillment.
Embracing the Unexpected
As I look back, I realize that I wasn’t always enthusiastic about this new direction. There were times when I felt inadequate for the task, or wished for different companions on my journey. Yet, the One who called me remained faithful, providing guidance, encouragement, and love every step of the way. In retrospect, I’m grateful that I didn’t insist on staying in my comfort zone, stuck in the familiar rhythms of my childhood.
A Life of Purpose
Today, I find myself engaged in activities that were once foreign to my nature – teaching, organizing, counseling. It’s a life that’s taken me far beyond the fields and trees of my youth. And while it’s not always easy, I know that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. For in embracing the unexpected, I’ve discovered a sense of purpose that brings meaning and fulfillment to my life.
