Life’s Journey: From Maps to Miracles
As I reflect on my experiences, I’m reminded of the Israelites’ frustration in the desert. They questioned Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?” (Exodus 14:11). I, too, have felt that sense of uncertainty and frustration when my carefully laid plans go awry.
The Art of Planning
As a naturally organized person, I tend to plan every detail, mapping out each step to ensure a smooth journey. Recently, I planned a trip, booking my airline ticket online and researching the best route from the airport to my hotel. I opted to take the train, followed by a short walk, rather than splurging on a cab ride. Or so I thought.
When Plans Go Wrong
Everything seemed to go according to plan initially. I arrived at the airport, boarded the train, and disembarked near my hotel. But as I walked, the sidewalks disappeared, and the lighting grew dim. I found myself trekking through the dark, wearing a dark suit, and pulling my luggage beneath an Interstate highway. It was a harrowing experience, to say the least. I wondered if I’d make it to my hotel without incident.
The Map of Life
This experience reminded me of the countless times I’ve shown my children our journey on a map, making it seem so short and easy. But life’s journey is rarely that straightforward. Our plans may look perfect on paper, but the execution can be a different story altogether. The Israelites’ journey out of Egypt is a prime example. They questioned Moses, wondering if they’d been brought into the desert to die.
Finding Our Way
The key to navigating life’s twists and turns is having a clear destination in mind. Without a specific goal, any road will do. But when we surrender to God’s will, He provides the map to guide us. I’ve learned that even when I think I know where I’m going, God often reveals a different path. And yet, He remains faithful, gently nudging me back onto the right track.
Following God’s Map
As I look back on my journey, I’m reminded that God’s will is the ultimate destination. When we follow His map for our lives, we can trust that He’ll guide us through even the darkest moments. So, let’s embrace the journey, with all its unexpected turns, and enjoy the ride. For it’s in surrendering to God’s plan that we discover true peace and purpose.
