Finding Peace in the Eye of the Storm
A Timely Reminder
Have you ever had a conversation that changed your perspective? I did, when a friend’s simple yet profound words struck a chord deep within me. As we discussed a challenging situation at work, I exclaimed, “This is driving me crazy!” My friend’s calm response was, “Only if you let it.” Those five words pierced my heart, revealing a struggle I’d been grappling with for years: how to maintain the peace I have in Christ amidst life’s turbulence.
The Struggle is Real
As a self-confessed perfectionist, I often find myself anxious and upset when things don’t go as planned. Feeling out of control, I must remind myself that the peace of God is always with me, thanks to the Spirit’s presence in my life. To experience this peace, I need to focus on God’s promises and character, rather than letting circumstances dictate my thoughts.
Foundational Truths
To anchor myself in God’s peace, I cling to these essential truths:
• I am a beloved child of God (Romans 8:14).
• God is always for me, never against me (Romans 8:31).
• I have God’s favor and blessings (Proverbs 8:35).
• God’s love for me exceeds my understanding (Ephesians 3:19).
Practicing Peace
It takes intentional effort to maintain a mind focused on Jesus, rather than the chaos surrounding me. However, when I succeed, I experience His perfect peace, even in the midst of turmoil.
A Heartfelt Prayer
Lord, help me cooperate with You to preserve my peace. Help me fix my mind on You, and not on the storms that rage around me. Amen.
