Finding Hope in Dark Times
When darkness falls, it’s easy to doubt the plans God has for us. But in those moments, we must remember the promise of Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.”
A Personal Struggle
I recall a particularly dark period in my life when everything seemed to be falling apart. My family and I had moved across Canada to take on new roles, but within eight months, the circumstances changed, and two of our children struggled to adjust. I was consumed by discouragement and uncertainty.
The Backdrop of Jeremiah 29
The nation of Israel faced a similar season of darkness, captive in Babylon due to their disobedience. Yet, God reassured them of His presence and plan for their well-being, promising a good future. In my own dark season, I had to refocus on the clarity of God’s call, reminding myself that our decision to move was based on His direction, not circumstances.
Trusting in the Dark
Like the Israelites, I had to trust that God’s plan was good, even when everything seemed to be going wrong. It wasn’t easy, but I chose to lift my head and affirm that what God had shown me in the light would guide me through the darkness. And slowly, I began to pass from despair to hope, not because my circumstances changed quickly, but because my confidence in God’s goodness did.
A Prayer of Trust
In times of doubt and uncertainty, I pray: “God, I confess that I have doubted you. I don’t like what’s happening around me, and I want to give up. But by faith, I’ll trust that you have a good plan and a future for me that fits into your plan. I’ll keep seeking and trusting you, knowing you are good and love me.” Amen.
Invitation to Faith
If you’re struggling to find hope in dark times, consider accepting Jesus into your life today. It’s not a guarantee that life will be easy, but it means you’ll have Jesus walking by your side. It starts with a simple, heartfelt prayer, inviting Him to take control of your life and guide you towards a brighter future.
