Finding Balance in a Goal-Oriented World
As we emerge from a rejuvenating weekend, the looming week ahead can evoke feelings of anxiety and overwhelm. We worry about fitting in all our tasks and achieving our objectives within the limited hours of the day. It’s as if the days stretch out before us like an endless road, with our focus fixed on the destination rather than the journey.
The Pressure to Perform
In today’s fast-paced world, we’re constantly driven to set and achieve goals. The end result becomes our sole focus, causing us to overlook the beauty and blessings that surround us. We’re given the gift of freedom to choose our path, but do we prioritize God’s guidance in our decision-making?
A Life of Purpose
Are we too caught up in meeting deadlines and striving for success? Do we rush through life, neglecting to bask in the sunlight and appreciate the beauty around us? Instead of prioritizing our daily tasks, do we seek God’s direction and make Him our top priority?
Working for the Lord
Whatever our occupation – whether paid work, family responsibilities, volunteering, or other activities – we must remember to place God first. This means dedicating our efforts to His glory, so that the light of Christ can shine through our lives. As Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Shifting Our Focus
By refocusing our priorities and seeking God’s guidance, we can break free from the pressure to perform and find a sense of balance in our lives. Let’s learn to appreciate the journey, rather than just the destination, and make every moment count for God’s glory.
