Experience Eternal Life: The Power of “Whoever”

The Power of “Whoever”

A Universal Invitation

The Bible declares, “whoever believes in Him shall not perish” (John 3:16). This promise is not limited to a specific time or place; it’s a universal invitation to experience eternal life.

A Personal Encounter

I recall a poignant experience with my Uncle Billy, who was struggling with bone cancer. Despite his physical limitations, I sensed a deeper longing in his eyes. I wanted to share the “whoever” policy with him, to assure him that God’s grace was within reach.

A Family Connection

Uncle Billy reminded me of my father – strong, rugged, and rooted in West Texas values. They shared a love for cigars and a blue-collar work ethic. But I wondered if they shared the same faith.

A Critical Moment

After a series of flights, shuttles, and a rental-car ride, I finally reached Uncle Billy’s house, only to find him back in the hospital. No visitors were allowed, but I was determined to see him. The next day, he felt better, and I got my chance.

A Heartfelt Conversation

As I sat beside him, holding his frail hand, I asked the question that had been weighing on my heart: “Bill, are you ready to go to heaven?” His eyes snapped open, filled with doubt. “I think I am,” he replied. I reassured him, “Do you want to be sure?” His response was emphatic: “Oh yes!”

A Prayer of Grace

We prayed together, seeking God’s mercy. In that moment, I knew that Uncle Billy had found peace. He passed away just days later, but I’m convinced that he woke up in heaven.

A Parable of Hope

Some may struggle with the idea that a last-minute confessor can receive the same grace as a lifetime servant. But Jesus’ parable of the eleventh hour workers reminds us that God’s prerogative is to extend mercy whenever and wherever He chooses. As the landowner in the parable said, “Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me?” (Matthew 20:15 RSV).

A Message of Hope

The “whoever” policy is a beacon of hope, reminding us that God’s grace is available to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Whether you’re near the end of your journey or just beginning, you can experience the transformative power of God’s love. Wherever you are, you’re not too far to come Home.
