The Question that Defines Our Faith
As we journey through the most sacred season of the Christian calendar, we’re compelled to pause and reflect on the foundation of our beliefs. It’s a time to examine what we truly think about Jesus, beyond the emotions, past impressions, and cultural influences that often sway our perceptions.
The Pendulum of Emotion
Our human tendency is to swing between extremes, allowing our feelings, personal experiences, and cultural emphases to shape our understanding of Jesus. We might focus on how we first came to know Him, what He’s done for us, or what He means to us personally. But when others ask about our faith, what do we say?
The Answer that Matters
When a neighbor, colleague, or classmate inquires about the Jesus we’ve committed our lives to, our response will likely be a blend of emotional encounter, intellectual understanding, and personal experience. But how do we know our answer has substance? The proof lies in the impact it has on others. Just as King Darius was moved to declare, “He is the living God and He endures forever,” after witnessing Daniel’s unwavering faith, our answer should inspire others to seek the truth about Jesus.
A Time for Reflection
So, let’s take a moment to reflect on our response to the question, “Who do you say I am?” What do we really believe about Jesus? As we search our hearts and minds, may our answer be one that honors Him and inspires others to do the same.
