The Intimacy of Knowing Jesus
As we reflect on the words of Luke 13:25, “Then you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Lord, open the door for us!’ But he will reply, ‘I do not know you’,” we are reminded that knowing Jesus is not just about acknowledging His existence, but about cultivating a deep, personal relationship with Him.
A Stranger at the Door
Imagine an unfamiliar neighbor showing up at your doorstep, suitcase in hand, ready to move in with you. Would you open the door widely for them? Unlikely. Yet, Jesus speaks of a narrow door that leads to heaven, and some will be rejected because He does not know them.
What Does it Mean to Know Jesus?
So, what does it mean to truly know Jesus? Is it simply a matter of intellectual assent or is it something more? Do you laugh and cry with Him? Do you depend on Him for every aspect of your life? Are you so in love with Him that it overflows to those around you?
A Deeper Connection
The good news is that we can come to know Jesus more deeply through conversation with Him, trusting in His goodness, and learning about Him through the Bible. It’s an honor to be in a relationship with Him, where we can seek His face every moment of every day.
Gratitude and Praise
As I reflect on my own relationship with Jesus, I am filled with gratitude for His desire to know me more. Thank you, Jesus, for never growing tired of our relationship. Thank you for revealing Yourself to me through Your Word and for choosing me to be Your child. Amen.
