Beyond Decoration: Living a Life of Authentic Faith

A Life of Purpose: More Than Just Decoration

As I stepped into the grand estate, I was struck by its beauty and history. The opulent wood floors, towering bookcases, and finely painted walls seemed to whisper stories of the past. Once a home to a wealthy family, it now welcomed groups for various events, its tapestries and rugs woven by European masters still adorning the walls and floors. Every room was filled with antique desks, tables, chairs, and chests, remnants of a bygone era.

A Yearning for Authenticity

During my visit, I stumbled upon a stunning grand piano in the library. Its yellowed keys seemed to gleam in the afternoon sunlight, the strings still taut, and the dark wood radiating warmth. I longed to hear its melodies, to have my soul refreshed by its beauty. But then I saw the sign: “For decoration only. Do not touch or play this piano.” My heart sank. This exquisite instrument, once capable of producing breathtaking music, was now nothing more than a mere ornament.

A Reflection of Our Faith

As I walked away, I couldn’t help but wonder: how often do we, as Christians, display a similar sign – an attitude that leaves others disappointed, hungry for something they sense we have within us that could satisfy their longings? In our zeal to do good, do we inadvertently convey a “Do Not Touch” posture to those around us? Are we mere decorations, taking up space and drawing admiring glances, but failing to produce the beauty and life that Christ intends for us to share?

A Call to Authenticity

We were not created to be mere ornaments. We were meant to be vessels of God’s love, touchable and relatable. As I reflect on my own life, I ask myself: do those close to me sense a genuine, approachable spirit, or do they see a “Do Not Touch” sign? Lord, help me be more like you, a Savior who is always accessible, always willing to touch and transform lives.
