When Life Gets Sticky: Trusting God in the Tough Moments

When Life Gets Sticky

As I sat down to play the introduction for the choir during the morning service, I was focused on the music in front of me. But little did I know, a tiny intruder was about to disrupt my concentration. On the middle D key, a stunned cockroach lay flailing its legs, having apparently run into the path of my flying fingers. My heart skipped a beat as I tried to process this unexpected surprise.

A Temporary Distraction

Gritting my teeth, I continued to play, gingerly avoiding middle D as much as possible. But the choir number was in the Key of D, making it a challenging task. Finally, halfway through the first verse, I managed to flick the now-deceased roach onto the floor. It was a relief, but I knew that not all problems in life could be resolved so quickly.

Trust in the Lord

Some challenges we face may not be easily overcome, and we may have to live with them for longer than just a verse. However, I’ve learned that if I keep looking to the Lord for grace and trust Him with the problem, He takes care of it one way or another. Sometimes, He shows us ways to make the situation easier, like avoiding the “middle” D while playing. Other times, He shows us how to deal with the situation, like flicking that roach to the floor during a whole note in the melody.

The Cleanup Process

After dealing with the problem, there’s often a need for spiritual cleanup. This may involve asking the Lord to forgive us if we’ve sinned. As 1 John 1:9 reminds us, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” We may also need to forgive those who have hurt us, just as Christ has forgiven us (Ephesians 4:32). And let’s not forget to thank and praise the One Who guided and helped us! “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; his love endures forever” (Psalms 107:1).

Bringing It to the Lord

Are there problems you’re facing that you haven’t yet brought to the Lord in prayer? Remember, He is faithful and just to help us in our time of need. So, take a deep breath, and bring your concerns to Him. Trust that He will take care of them, one way or another.
