Embracing the Unwavering Trust of a Lifetime
When faced with the question, “Do you trust in the Lord?”, my instinctive response would be a resounding “Yes!” But, if the question were rephrased to “Do you trust the Lord with all your heart?”, my enthusiasm would wane, and my response would become less definitive. It’s in those moments of uncertainty and adversity that I’ve questioned God’s sovereignty, relying on my own understanding instead.
The Divine Insight of Trust
The wisdom of Proverbs reminds us that trust is an unavoidable passage for believers seeking a deeper, more intimate relationship with the Lord. Intimacy without trust is unattainable. Jesus, in His obedience to the Father, modeled unwavering trust throughout His life. He submitted to the Father’s council and will, regardless of circumstance or consequence. And He calls us to do the same – to trust with an unwavering resolve, submitting to the Father’s will despite personal doubts or perceptions.
A Lifelong Call to Trust
Trusting the Lord with all our heart is a lifelong challenge. It’s essential to remember that trust is not a feeling, but an action. It’s the foundation and heart of authentic, intimate relationships. So, how do we respond to the crucible of trust? For me, trust means audaciously choosing to follow Jesus on a long and winding road, even when the path ahead is uncertain.
A Journey Worthy of Inconvenience
Unwavering trust is a journey that requires us to surrender our fears and doubts. It’s a journey worthy of inconvenience, but one that ultimately leads to a deeper understanding of God’s sovereignty. When we reflect on our journey, we’ll witness a perfectly straight path disappearing into life’s horizon.
A Prayer for Trust
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me despite my weaknesses and inadequacies. Help me to overcome my fears and may Your Holy Spirit teach me to trust You in every circumstance – with all my heart. In Jesus’ precious name, amen.
