Unwavering: Embracing the Constant Love of God

Embracing the Unwavering Love of God

As I pondered the scripture “Keep yourselves in God’s love” (Jude 21), a question echoed in my heart: “How can I maintain my position in God’s love?” After all, His love is eternal, unchanging, and constant – nothing can separate us from it. But what does this directive really mean?

A Reflection of Human Relationships

I turned to my relationship with my husband Marvin for insight. He loves me more than anyone on earth, making me feel secure, safe, and protected. However, when misunderstandings arise, my sense of security quickly gives way to insecurity. In those moments, I erect a wall, withdrawing from his love rather than embracing it. This wall blocks out his love, and I realize that I sometimes do the same with God’s love.

Doubts and Misconceptions

God orchestrates circumstances in my life to teach me divine truths, but sometimes these situations are painful, leading me to doubt the Bible’s promises about God’s love. I construct a wall, and although His love for me remains unchanged, I fail to experience it. For instance, when our five-month-old grandson Spencer passed away suddenly, the enemy whispered doubts in my mind, questioning God’s love. In that moment, God’s power and sovereignty seemed overwhelming, while His love appeared small and insignificant.

A Turning Point

But then God spoke to my heart, asking if I believed the Bible and if I believed that He is love. I was reminded of 1 John 4:16, “God is love.” In that moment, I made a choice to trust the Bible, even when I didn’t understand God’s ways. My wall toward God came tumbling down, and I once again felt the warmth of His love.

A Lesson Learned

I realized that God’s love is not dependent on my feelings or circumstances. His love is constant, and the Bible is truer than my emotions. This understanding has allowed me to experience God’s love more deeply and to trust Him more fully.

An Invitation to Experience God’s Love

God is waiting to shower you with His love and kindness, guiding your life and making something beautiful out of it. You can open your heart and life to Him today by praying a prayer of surrender:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to you and ask you to come in as my Savior and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person you want me to be.
