Finding Peace in God’s Protection
After a traumatic experience, my mother invested in a state-of-the-art security system for her home. I was impressed by the expert’s detailed explanation of its features and operation. The system promised to provide both physical safety and emotional confidence. However, as time went by, it became clear that my mother’s anxiety had not entirely dissipated.
The False Sense of Security
The system required a specific sequence of digits to be entered into a small panel before exiting the house. Any unauthorized entry would trigger a loud alarm, alerting neighbors and passersby. While my mother remembered the exit procedure, re-entering the house proved to be a challenge. With her arms full of groceries, she would often rush to answer the phone, only to be startled by the blaring alarm. In her panic, she would forget which button to press to disarm the system.
A Foolproof Security System
As followers of Christ, we have a far more reliable security system – God Himself. He promises to never leave or forsake us, to guide us, and to surround us with His love. Our security is not dependent on buttons or codes, but on trusting in Him. The prophet Isaiah records a remarkable promise: “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” (Isaiah 30:15)
The Condition of Rest
However, there is a crucial condition attached to this promise: “But you were unwilling.” (Isaiah 30:15) We must be willing to return to God and rest in His plan for our lives. This requires surrendering our worries and fears to Him.
Reflecting on Our Trust
So, how are you doing with resting in God’s plan for your life? Are you willing to let go of your anxieties and trust in His sovereignty? Take a moment to reflect on your relationship with God and ask yourself: Am I experiencing the fullness of His security system in my life?
