The Heart of a Servant
At the core of Jesus’ mission lies a profound truth: He did not come to be served, but to serve others. As stated in Matthew 20:28, “The Son of Man did not come to be served. He came to serve others and give His life as a ransom for many people.” This selfless act of love is a beacon of hope, shining brightly for all humanity.
A Lesson from a Russian Fable
As a young boy, I was captivated by a Russian fable that illustrated this very principle. A master and his servant embarked on a perilous journey, only to find themselves lost in a treacherous blizzard. When they were finally discovered, the master lay frozen to death, face down in the snow. But beneath him, the servant was found, cold but alive. The master had willingly sacrificed himself, placing his own body between the servant and the harsh elements, ensuring the servant’s survival.
The Ultimate Sacrifice
This poignant tale echoes the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus Christ. He, too, chose to lay down His life for humanity, wearing the sovereign crown of a king, yet bearing the heart of a father. The King who suffered for the peasant, the Master who gave Himself for the servant – this is the essence of Jesus’ mission.
A Life of Service
Jesus, the Son of Man, came to serve and to give His life as a ransom – for you! He embodied the spirit of service, demonstrating that true leadership is not about power or prestige, but about humility and sacrifice. May we be inspired by His example, striving to emulate His selfless heart in our own lives.
A Legacy of Love
As we reflect on the life and teachings of Jesus, may we be reminded of the transformative power of service and sacrifice. May His legacy of love inspire us to live a life of purpose, dedicated to serving others, just as He served us.
