The Power of Positive Speech
Uplifting Others with Our Words
The words we speak have the power to either build up or tear down. As believers, it’s essential to remember that our words should be a reflection of our devotion to God. Psalm 34:13-14 reminds us to “keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.”
What Does it Mean to Have a Wholesome Tongue?
A wholesome tongue is one that speaks life and positivity into the lives of others. It’s a tongue that builds up, encourages, and supports. It’s gentle, kind, and uplifting. Proverbs 15:4 says, “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness there in is a breech in the spirit.”
The Importance of Biblical Speech
Biblical speech involves applying God’s Word to our daily lives. It means allowing the principles of scripture to influence our words and how we use them. We should strive to build people up, using words of challenge in loving ways, and speaking words of grace. As Matthew 12:36 warns, “I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Guarding Our Words
Proverbs 21:23 advises us to “guard our mouth and tongue” to avoid calamity. Griping, grumbling, and complaining can lead to negative consequences and affect our relationships with others. Instead, we should strive to be peaceable, considerate, and humble, as instructed in Titus 3:2.
The Impact of Our Words
Our words have a profound impact on our lives, the lives of others, and our relationship with God. By committing to study God’s Word and applying its principles to our speech, we can make a positive difference in the world around us.
