Shining a Beacon of Hope in a Dark World
The classic hymn “This Little Light of Mine” has been a beloved favorite for generations. Written by Harry Dixon around 1920, its timeless message continues to inspire and uplift people of all ages. But did you know that there are more verses to this iconic song than you may have realized?
Uncovering Hidden Gems
Two lesser-known verses stand out: “Everywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine” and “Jesus gave it to me, I’m gonna let it shine.” These lines take on new significance when paired with Jesus’ powerful declaration in John 8:12: “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
The Lamp to Our Feet
The Psalmist beautifully captures the essence of God’s guidance in Psalm 119:105, crediting the Lord as the lamp to our feet and the light to our path. Similarly, John’s Gospel reminds us that Jesus, the Word, became flesh and dwelled among us (John 1:1 and 14). As we strive to let our “little light” shine, may it be Jesus radiating through us, illuminating the path for others.
A Prayer for Guidance
This week, let us pray: “Heavenly Father, we thank you for your word, our guiding light in the darkness. We thank you for Jesus, who came as the Light of life, empowering us to shine His light in a world that desperately needs it. May we reflect His love and truth, bringing hope to those around us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
