Thriving in the Desert
As I traversed the vast expanse of the Mojave Desert, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of desolation wash over me. The endless dunes of sand, the scattered rocks, and the occasional Joshua tree seemed to stretch on forever, leaving me with a sense of hopelessness. But then, like an oasis in the desert, our destination came into view. The motel’s driveway was a kaleidoscope of colors, with vibrant flowers blooming in every direction. The stark contrast between these two landscapes, both existing in the same harsh desert climate, struck a chord within me.
The Power of Nourishment
The difference between the two, I realized, lay in the care and attention they received. The thriving garden was meticulously tended, watered, pruned, and fertilized, while the desolate desert was left to its own devices. This got me thinking – aren’t we, as people, similar? Don’t we too require nourishment to grow and flourish?
A Chance Encounter
The next day, during our morning stroll, my husband and I encountered an older man who responded to our friendly greeting with a venomous outburst. It was a sobering reminder that some souls are indeed desolate and in need of care. I couldn’t help but pray for him as we continued on our way.
The Secret to Fruitfulness
So, what’s the secret to keeping our souls vibrant and fruitful? Psalm 1:1 offers us valuable advice: avoid seeking counsel from those who don’t share our values, refrain from associating with people who mock or scorn our faith, and instead, delight in and meditate on God’s word. If your soul feels drained or barren today, take a moment to reflect on your life. Are you following these principles?
A Hunger for God’s Word
As I reflect on my own life, I’m reminded of the importance of prioritizing my relationship with God. I pray that we may all cultivate a hunger and thirst for His word, and for the company of fellow believers who can support and uplift us. May we, like the tree firmly planted by the streams of water, bring forth fruit in its season, and may our leaves never wither or fade.
