The Cry of the Soul: Seeking Intimacy with God
A Deep Longing
Do you yearn for something more in your spiritual journey? A sense of emptiness that cannot be filled by earthly pursuits? The psalmist understood this longing, crying out to God in Psalm 63:1, “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you.” This is not a casual interest, but a deep-seated desire to connect with the divine.
Thirsting for God
Like the deer that pants for streams of water, our souls cry out for God (Psalm 42:1). This is not a fleeting emotion, but a profound need for spiritual nourishment. Our Father desires a constant communion of our spirit with His Spirit, a union that satisfies our deepest longings.
Meeting God Personally
To experience this intimacy, we must shift our focus from our heads to our spirits. We must get beyond mere intellectual assent and meet God personally and profoundly. The promise of Scripture is that God is who He says He is, and He can do what He says He can do (Hebrews 11:6).
The Invitation of Jesus
Jesus stands at the door of our hearts, knocking, waiting for us to open up to Him for satisfying fellowship (Revelations 3:20). He invites us to a table set for two, desiring our love and seeking to fulfill His heart through our openness to Him.
A Covenant-Keeper
As we seek God, we come to know Him as a covenant-keeper, faithful to His promises. We do not need more rules or regulations, but more of His Spirit, guiding us into truth and intimacy. In this journey, we discover that God is not just a distant figure, but a personal and powerful presence that satisfies our deepest cries.
The Reward of Seeking
The Bible promises that those who earnestly seek God will be rewarded (Hebrews 11:6). This is not a reward of earthly treasures, but of spiritual riches, a deeper understanding of God’s character, and a more profound experience of His presence.
Be Blessed
May you be blessed to live from this deep cry of seeking God, longing for more of Him, and digging in to know Him more intimately. May you be blessed to direct the thirst of your soul to communion with Him, and may you encounter Him in dimensions that leave you breathless.
