Embracing Humility: A Lesson from the Son of God
When the Son of God descended upon earth, He didn’t seek out grand, majestic environments worthy of His divine identity. Instead, He chose humble, ordinary settings to showcase the power of the Kingdom of God. One such instance that stands out is His visit to the Pool of Bethesda, a place teeming with people afflicted by blindness, lameness, and paralysis.
A Place of Healing and Humility
The Pool of Bethesda was far from a pristine environment. The stench of human waste and decay must have been overwhelming, considering many of these individuals relied on others for their most basic needs. Yet, Jesus deliberately chose to enter this unassuming setting, bringing hope and healing to those who needed it most.
A Reflection of Our Own Lives
This encounter prompts us to examine our own lives. Who do we surround ourselves with? What places do we frequent? Would Jesus be found in these same environments? Perhaps it’s time to reassess the positions we’ve created for ourselves and our perceptions of where we belong in this world. Like Jesus, we must be willing to lay down our self-conceived notions and enter the humble, often unpleasant places where He would be present.
Laying Down Our Divinity
Today, I surrender any concept of self that excludes me from embracing the humble, imperfect environments where Jesus would dwell. I ask for the grace to walk alongside Him, to enter the stinky, broken places where love and healing are desperately needed. May we follow Jesus’ example, embracing humility and bringing hope to those around us.
