The Ultimate Ambition of a Christian
As followers of Christ, our primary goal should be to bring glory to God. All other desires and aspirations must take a backseat to this singular focus. Whether we’re seeking success in our careers or an increase in spiritual gifts, our motivation should always be to honor and glorify our Lord.
A Life Dedicated to God
As children of God, we must recognize that our lives are not our own. We exist “of God, and through God,” and therefore, we should live “to God.” Our hearts should beat with a passion to serve and glorify Him, and this ambition should be the foundation of every action we take.
The Dangers of Self-Reliance
When we rely on ourselves, sorrow and disappointment are inevitable. But when we make God our supreme delight, our joy is complete. Our desire for God’s glory should be a growing desire, one that increases with each passing day.
Responding to God’s Blessings
As God blesses us with prosperity, experience, and knowledge, our response should be to give Him even more praise and thanks. We should sing His praises with greater fervor, exercising stronger faith and increasing our service to Him. When we enjoy happier times, are healed from sickness, or experience peace and joy, our gratitude should overflow in worship and adoration.
Practical Applications
In our daily lives, we must give God honor and praise. As we do, our individual service and holiness will increasingly become a reflection of our great and gracious Lord. We will find ourselves saying “Amen” to His glory, and our lives will be a testament to His power and love.
The Temptation to Take Glory
So why do we sometimes struggle to give God the glory due to Him? Why do we tend to take credit for ourselves instead of directing praise to our Lord? Perhaps it’s because we forget that our lives are not our own, and that every blessing we receive is a gift from above. May we remember to keep our eyes fixed on God, and may our ultimate ambition be to bring Him glory forever!
