When Faith Falters
In the darkest of times, when sorrow and doubt threaten to consume us, we often find ourselves questioning God’s presence in our lives. We cry out, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” We wonder if He is truly with us, if He truly cares.
A Glimmer of Hope
But then, like Martha, we are reminded of the hope we have clung to in the past. We recall the times God has comforted us, strengthened us, and guided us through the storm. We whisper, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.” In that moment, our faith is reignited, and we find the courage to take the next step.
The Reality of Doubt
Yet, all too often, our faith is tested by the harsh realities of life. We falter, just like Martha did when she said, “But Lord… By this time there is a bad odor for he has been there four days.” We struggle to reconcile our faith with the pain and suffering we see around us. We wonder, “How can a loving God allow such tragedy to occur?”
Unwrapping Our Doubt
But what if, like Martha, we allowed Jesus to unwrap our doubts and fears? What if we let Him reveal His glory and power in our lives, just as He did at the resurrection of Lazarus? Would our faith grow stronger, more resilient? Would we find the courage to walk the path ahead, even in the face of uncertainty?
A Cry for Help
Oh dear Father, we cry out with the words of a father desperate for his son’s healing, “I do believe! Help me overcome my unbelief” (Mark 9:24). We acknowledge our doubts, our fears, and our weaknesses. We ask for strength, for guidance, and for faith to trust in Your goodness and love.
Growing in Faith
As we walk this journey of faith, may we remember the lessons of Martha. May we cling to the hope we have in Christ, even when our faith falters. May we allow Him to unwrap our doubts and fears, revealing His glory and power in our lives. And may we emerge stronger, more resilient, and more confident in our faith, ready to face whatever challenges come our way.
