Answering God’s Call: Overcome Fear & Doubt to Make a Difference

Embracing God’s Call: Overcoming Fear and Doubt

As we journey through life, we’re often faced with opportunities to make a positive impact on those around us. Whether it’s donating to a worthy cause, lending a helping hand to a neighbor, or sharing the Good News with someone in need, God whispers in our ear, urging us to take action.

The Squirrel’s Dilemma

Recently, while driving, I witnessed a squirrel’s frantic attempt to cross the road. Initially, it made swift progress, but upon noticing our approaching vehicle, it suddenly turned back. Then, faced with an oncoming car in the other lane, the squirrel panicked, darting one way and then another. We slowed down, allowing the squirrel to safely complete its journey. This scene reminded me of our own struggles when responding to God’s call.

Fear and Doubt: The Roadblocks to Obedience

When God impresses us to take action, we often start with enthusiasm, only to encounter obstacles that make us question His leading. Fear, doubt, and uncertainty creep in, causing us to hesitate or even turn back. We forget that God, who calls us to action, is faithful to provide the necessary resources to see it through. As 1 Thessalonians 5:24 reminds us, “The One who calls you is faithful and He will do it.”

Reclaiming Our Purpose

Has God impressed you to do something for someone, only for you to start and then stop? Remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:40 (MSG): “Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.” Don’t let fear and doubt hold you back from making a difference in someone’s life. Instead, ask Jesus to fill you with His boldness and love, empowering you to take action.

A Prayer for Courage

Jesus, help us to respond wholeheartedly when You impress us to do something. Fill us with Your courage and love, that we might faithfully serve others, reflecting Your character to a world in need. Amen.
