A Mother’s Faith: Trusting God with Our Children
As a parent, there’s no greater concern than the well-being of our children. For Linda, that concern turned to worry when her son Billy fell in with the wrong crowd. His friends were involved in heavy drinking, drugs, and pornography, and Linda couldn’t help but think back to when Billy was a sweet, innocent six-year-old who had invited Jesus into his heart.
From Joy to Worry
Fast forward to Billy’s twenties, and Linda’s joy had turned to worry. She pleaded with God to protect her son from harm, but as she delved deeper into scripture, she realized that God sometimes uses difficult circumstances to bring wayward children back to Him.
A Change of Heart
Linda’s prayers shifted, and she began to ask God to spare Billy’s life, even if it meant bringing him low enough to see the error of his ways. It was a difficult prayer to pray, but Linda trusted that God knew what was best for her son.
The Power of Prayer
On Billy’s darkest night, he finally listened to the Holy Spirit’s promptings and returned to Christ. It was a testament to the power of prayer and the importance of trusting God with our children’s lives.
Letting Go
As parents, it’s natural to want to control our children’s paths, but ultimately, we must learn to let go and trust that God has a plan for their lives. By doing so, we can rest assured that they will be directed down the right path.
Trusting in God’s Sovereignty
As Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, “Trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.” By trusting in God’s sovereignty and praying for our children, we can have faith that they will be guided towards a life of purpose and meaning.
