Speaking Truth with Love: A Recipe for Growth
As believers, we’re called to emulate Christ’s example of speaking truth in love. In Ephesians 4:15-16, we’re reminded that when we do so, we’ll grow into mature followers of Christ, with each part of the body working together in harmony.
The Art of Confrontation
We’ve all been there – picking up the phone, taking a deep breath, and finally saying what’s been on our minds for years. But more often than not, the conversation doesn’t go as planned. The other person hangs up, or we’re met with defensiveness instead of a heartfelt apology. Why? Because we often forget to balance truth with love.
A Messy but Necessary Process
Relating to difficult people in our lives can be messy, but it’s precisely through these interactions that we grow. When we share Jesus with someone we care about, we’re offering them a chance at eternal life. And if they’re already a disciple, we’re helping them influence a world that desperately needs Christ.
Don’t Give Up
So, what do we do when these conversations get tough? We ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. Luke 12:12 promises that in those moments, God will give us the words to speak. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being willing to learn and grow alongside others.
A Prayer for Wisdom
Dear Lord, thank You for the people in my life who need to hear Your truth. Help me to know when to speak up, what to say, and how to say it with love. Forgive me for the times I’ve used truth as a weapon instead of a tool for growth. Help me to speak from a place of love, and may my words bring life to those around me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
