Finding Refuge in a World of Broken Trust
The Struggle to Trust
“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Psalm 91:4
Imagine being a young boy, abandoned by your father and exploited by your mother. Your entire childhood is marked by feelings of vulnerability and mistrust. As you grow older, the scars of your past linger, making it challenging to form meaningful relationships or trust others.
The Cycle of Broken Trust
We’ve all experienced broken trust in some form or another. A parent fails to protect, a friend breaks a promise, or an employer treats us unfairly. These experiences can leave deep wounds, making it difficult to believe that anyone, including God, can be trusted.
A Faithful Protector
The Psalmist offers a powerful antidote to our trust issues. God is depicted as a loving protector, shielding us from life’s problems like an eagle guards its young or a soldier behind a shield. Even when we face struggles, God walks alongside us as a faithful friend.
Rethinking Our Perception of God
How do you perceive God? Has your trust in Him been shaken by the actions of others? Can you see beyond the hurt and recognize God as a faithful protector who longs to help you trust again?
A Prayer for Trust
Dear God, I’ve been hurt by those I trusted. Help me to see Your faithfulness and trustworthiness. Walk with me, support me, and shield me from harm. Restore my ability to trust in You and others. Amen.
