Finding Peace Amidst Betrayal
When someone we trust turns against us, it can be a devastating blow. I know firsthand the sting of deception and the overwhelming emotions that come with it. A colleague’s lies about my work left me reeling, feeling weak and disoriented. But in the midst of turmoil, I made a choice: to trust God to handle justice, rather than seeking it myself.
The Pain of Deception
Make no mistake, what my colleague did was wrong – a cruel attempt to tarnish my reputation out of jealousy. I wish someone had stood up for me, but when they didn’t, God provided the peace I needed to move forward. When others diminish, lie about, or mock us, especially because of our beliefs, it can feel like a personal attack. But what do we do when we can’t escape the situation?
The Struggle to Forgive
One of the greatest challenges we face as followers of Christ is resisting the urge to seek our own justice. It goes against our natural human response. Yet, Jesus understands our pain, having faced insults, lies, and mockery all the way to the cross. He wants us to see the bigger picture – to love even in the face of adversity.
God, Our Justice
Jesus teaches us to love, even when it’s hard. God is our justice, and when we choose to forgive, it proves that we are made of something more than human – that God, who is love, lives inside of us. Forgiveness is hard, but so is trusting God to handle justice. Still, I will trust in Him, asking Him to change my heart, renew my mind, and fill me with His Spirit.
A Prayer for Peace
Almighty God, my justice and my peace, forgiving is hard to do, and so is letting you be my justice. Yet, I will trust in you. Change my heart, renew my mind, and fill me with your Spirit. Teach me to love as you love. Amen.
Learning to Love
In the face of betrayal, we have a choice: to seek revenge or to seek God. When we choose to love, even when it’s difficult, we prove that God’s love resides within us. May we learn to trust in God’s justice and find peace amidst the turmoil.
