Finding Comfort in the Shepherd’s Care
As I listened to the speaker, I couldn’t help but chuckle at her sheep costume. But soon, my smile turned into a nod of understanding as she shared a powerful analogy about the shepherd’s relationship with his flock. Did you know that sheep are helpless when they fall? They can’t get back up on their own and will perish unless the shepherd intervenes. It’s a poignant reminder of our own vulnerability.
The Fear of Falling
I must admit, I’ve had my share of worries about falling and being unable to get up, especially since I live alone. Those commercials featuring elderly individuals pressing their call buttons and crying out for help resonate deeply with me. But the speaker’s message brought me comfort: God is always there to lift me up, even when no one else can.
A Compassionate God
In Matthew’s passage, we see Jesus’ compassion towards the people of Jerusalem, who had lost their way in their faith. Rather than giving up on them, He wanted to restore them, to set them back on their feet. This same compassion is available to us today. When we stumble, when we fall, God doesn’t abandon us. He reaches out, lifts us up, and sets us back on track.
Don’t Struggle Alone
The truth is, we’re not equipped to get back up on our own. We need the Shepherd’s guidance and care. So, why do we insist on struggling alone? Perhaps it’s pride, or fear, or a sense of self-reliance. But the reality is, we can’t do it without Him. We need to press the call button, to seek out the Shepherd’s help, and trust that He will have compassion on us.
A Prayer of Gratitude
Dear Lord, thank you for being my Shepherd, for having compassion on me, and for always being there for me. Help me to let go of fear and trust in your goodness. Amen.
