When Faith Falters: Choosing to Trust in the Unknown

When Faith Feels Like a Distant Dream

As I navigated the dark roads, the clock ticking away at 4:15 am, my mind echoed with a desperate plea: “How long, Lord?” The same anguish that poured out of David’s heart in Psalm 13 resonated deeply within me. Trapped in a seemingly hopeless situation, I felt like I’d exhausted all avenues – tears, prayers, conversations with loved ones. Yet, in the stillness of that morning, a profound realization dawned on me: my biggest obstacle wasn’t my circumstances, but my own lack of faith.

The Choice to Believe

The author of Hebrews reminds us that faith is the confidence in things unseen, the assurance of what we hope for. It’s a conscious decision to trust in the unknown, even when our emotions and surroundings scream otherwise. Faith isn’t a feeling; it’s a choice. And it’s in the darkest moments, when our situations seem insurmountable, that we must choose to hold on to faith.

Mountains to Move

As we enter this new year, our hearts may cry out with the same desperation: “How long, Oh Lord?” Whether we’re burdened by past pain, financial struggles, loneliness, or seemingly insurmountable challenges, we must remember that even the tallest mountains can be moved. Our prayer becomes: “Lord, let my faith be bigger than the mountains that loom before me. Help me to remain faithful to you, because you, oh Lord, are faithful.”

Holding On to Hope

When the weight of our circumstances threatens to crush us, it’s essential to recall God’s wisdom, goodness, love, and grace. In those moments, we must choose to focus on His character, rather than our challenges. By doing so, we’ll find the strength to keep moving forward, even when faith feels like a distant dream.
