Letting Go of Overcommitment: Embracing God’s Abundance

Embracing Abundance: Learning to Prioritize and Let Go

Denise’s dinner party was supposed to be a triumph, but it quickly turned into a comedy of errors. She was running 15 minutes behind, and her guests were already arriving, casseroles in hand. As she rushed to open the door, her makeup was smudged, and she felt like a hot mess. If you’ve ever found yourself in a similar situation, take comfort: you’re not alone.

The Pitfalls of Overcommitting

Many of us try to cram too much into our daily schedules, often with disastrous results. While it’s great to be optimistic and believe we can do it all, sometimes we need to take a step back and reassess our priorities. Jesus encourages us to live life to the fullest, but that doesn’t mean sacrificing our well-being and relationships in the process.

The Art of Saying No

Part of living abundantly means acknowledging that we’re not in control. It’s okay to say no to commitments that drain our energy and detract from what truly matters. By doing so, we’re not only taking care of ourselves but also honoring God’s sovereignty. As Christa Hardin so eloquently puts it, “Saying no once in a while isn’t a bad thing.”

A Prayer for Wisdom

Are you feeling overwhelmed by your to-do list? Take a moment to ask God for wisdom in your daily scheduling. Remember, He is the one who holds all things together, and His guidance is all-encompassing. Place your hand over your calendar and surrender it to Him.

A Heart of Wisdom

Dear Lord, help me to give today – and every day – to You. Help me to live the abundant life to which You call me, without making the mistake of believing I am God. Forgive me for running ahead of You at times. I love You and am so grateful for Your care over me. Amen.
