Following Jesus: A Leap of Faith Beyond Doubt

The Unwavering Call of Faith

A Leap of Trust

Jesus’ words still echo through the ages: “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” It was an invitation that would change the course of Simon and Andrew’s lives forever. Despite their familiarity with Jesus and possibly even John the Baptist, there came a moment when they couldn’t hesitate any longer. Without looking back, they abandoned their nets and embarked on a journey with the itinerant rabbi.

Leaving the Familiar Behind

Their decision meant relinquishing the comfort and security of their old life. Their nets represented a sense of belonging, a stable income, and a respected place in society. Yet, they chose to trade it all for the uncertainty of traveling with a controversial figure, supported by a group of devoted women. The road ahead was fraught with uncertainty, and the promise of rest was never guaranteed.

Doubts and Questions

As they navigated the challenges of their new path, it’s likely that Simon and Andrew often wondered if it was all worth it. After Jesus’ death, Peter’s doubts resurfaced, and he returned to the comfort of his nets. But Jesus, in his infinite love and faith, revealed himself to Peter in a remarkable way, convincing him to leave the nets behind once and for all.

A Conversation of Faith

Madeleine L’Engle’s words resonate deeply: “Sometimes in the groping dark of my not knowing, I am exhausted with the struggle to believe in you, O God.” Peter, too, must have felt this way. In his conversation with Jesus, he came to realize that it was time to surrender his doubts and trust in the extraordinary ways of God.

A Promise of Faithfulness

Jesus’ promise to never leave us, even in the darkest moments of uncertainty, is a beacon of hope. We, too, can experience this promise by surrendering our will and life to him. The first step is a simple prayer, acknowledging Jesus as the Son of God and surrendering control of our lives to him.

A New Beginning

If you don’t know Jesus personally, you can start your journey today. Pray this prayer with sincerity, and Christ will come into your life, just as he promised: “Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.”
