The Unlikely Messenger
Have you ever felt uncertain about your ability to serve God? Perhaps you’ve wondered if you’re qualified or capable of making a difference in His kingdom. I know I have. But a powerful reminder from a friend changed my perspective forever.
A Humbling Lesson
When I was considering full-time ministry, a friend shared a remarkable story from Numbers 22. It’s the account of Balaam’s donkey, who miraculously spoke to its owner to warn him of God’s plan. My friend’s point was simple yet profound: if God can speak through a donkey, He can certainly speak through me – or anyone else who is willing to listen.
Availability Over Ability
God doesn’t need our skills or talents; He wants our availability. Moses, for instance, was reluctant to lead the Israelites, but God transformed him into a powerful leader. Jesus’ disciples were ordinary people who became extraordinary followers by making themselves fully available to Him.
The Heart of Availability
So, what does it mean to be available to God? It’s a mindset that combines the humility of a servant with the passion of someone deeply in love. A servant prioritizes their master’s wishes, while someone in love is consumed by thoughts of their beloved. When we’re available to God, we anticipate and fulfill His desires, eager to be used by Him to spread His love.
A Prayer of Surrender
Dear Father, I surrender my plans, desires, and time to You. I long to be available to You in every moment, to be used by You to accomplish Your purposes. Speak through me to communicate Your love to those around me. May my ears be attentive to Your voice amidst life’s noise. Amen.
By embracing this mindset of availability, we open ourselves up to being used by God in ways we never thought possible. Will you join me in surrendering to His will today?
