The Longing to Be Heard
As a busy parent, I’ve often found myself guilty of half-listening to my children. But one of my sons, even at a young age, had a clever way of ensuring I gave him my undivided attention. He’d grab my face, forcing me to look him in the eye, and pour his heart out to me. It was his way of saying, “Mom, I need you to hear me, to understand me, and to love me for who I am.”
A Universal Yearning
This desire to be heard and understood is not unique to children. It’s a fundamental human need, a deep-seated longing that resides within each of us. We all crave to be loved, valued, and understood for who we are. When we’re not heard, we feel ignored, unimportant, and insignificant.
The Fear of Being Ignored
Have you ever wondered if God is too busy to listen to your concerns? With the weight of the world on His shoulders, how could He possibly have time for you? It’s a nagging doubt that can leave us feeling uncertain and disconnected from our Creator.
A God Who Listens
But what if I told you that God is not a distant, uninterested observer? What if He’s actually a loving Father who bends down to listen, who draws close, and who loves fully? Psalm 116:1-2 paints a beautiful picture of this God: “I love the LORD because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!”
A Heart That Longs
Our hearts were designed to long for God’s attentive love. He created us with this deep-seated need, and yet, we often ignore it, turning to other things to satisfy our souls. But these substitutes never fully satisfy, leaving us disillusioned and questioning God’s care.
The Waiting Father
But here’s the amazing truth: God is waiting for us to turn to Him. He’s patiently listening, longing to wipe away our tears and say, “I’m listening, my child, what do you need to tell me?” He’s the God who bends down, who draws close, and who loves fully.
Turning to Him
So, let’s turn to Him today. Let’s pour out our hearts to the One who created us, who loves us, and who longs to hear from us. He’s waiting, and He’s listening.
