Finding Strength in the Midst of Turmoil
When life gets overwhelming, it’s essential to take a step back and recharge. Last night, I found myself in need of a breather after a chaotic day filled with tough decisions, concerns for loved ones, and uncertainty about the future. As I turned to Psalm 18, I was struck by the powerful reminder of God’s presence in our lives.
A Rock-Solid Foundation
Verse 2 stood out to me, its nine-fold description of God’s character leaving me in awe. “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” (Psalm 18:2) The repetition of “my” throughout the verse emphasizes that this powerful God is ours, always available to support us.
A Shield Against Life’s Storms
What caught my attention was the unique phrasing of one attribute amidst the list: “in whom I will trust.” It’s as if God is saying, “I’m not just your rock, fortress, and deliverer; I’m also the One you can rely on completely.” In the midst of turmoil, it’s easy to get lost in our thoughts, but God wants us to lean on His strength.
Trust: The Antidote to Tangled Thoughts
As I continued reading Psalm 18, I was reminded of David’s beautiful description of how God rescued him in times of need. So, how should we respond to such a powerful God? The answer is simple: trust. “He is a shield to all those who trust in him.” (Psalm 18:30b) When we put our faith in God, He becomes our shield, protecting us from life’s storms.
A Call to Trust
In the end, it’s not about our tangled thoughts or weaknesses; it’s about recognizing the strength of our God. He wants us to trust in Him, to lean on His power, and to find solace in His presence. May we remember that God is always our rock, our fortress, and our deliverer – and may we trust in Him completely.
