Finding Lasting Peace in a Turbulent World
Many of us believe that if we could just change our circumstances, life would be perfect. We think that finding a new job, overcoming depression, or saving a troubled marriage would bring us the peace we so desperately crave. But this approach is not only misguided, it’s also unbiblical.
The Misconception of Self-Reliance
We may experience temporary relief when we fix a problem on our own, but it won’t lead to lasting peace. True peace comes from trusting in the Lord, not in our own abilities. When we rely on ourselves, we’re essentially saying that we don’t need God’s help. But the truth is, God’s peace is available to us no matter how dire our situation may seem.
The Source of True Peace
Jesus warned us that we would face trouble in this world, but He also assured us that He has overcome it. This means that we can have peace in the midst of our trials because the Lord is always with us. Our relationship with Christ provides everything we need to face difficulty with courage, wisdom, guidance, and comfort.
Dependence on God
Jesus promised peace to those who trust in Him, and He always delivers on His promises. Our part is to take one day at a time, believing that He will carry us through. Our Father wants to see us demonstrate faith, and we can depend on Him to meet our needs and bestow upon us the divine peace that surpasses all comprehension.
A Personal Story of Triumph
Barbara Epp shares her journey with depression and the misconception that Christians shouldn’t get depressed. Her story is a powerful reminder that we can find peace in the midst of turmoil when we trust in the Lord. By learning to depend on God, we can overcome even the darkest of times and experience the peace that only He can provide.
