Finding Peace in a Noisy World
In today’s fast-paced society, silence can be a rare commodity. We often find ourselves surrounded by noise, distractions, and chaos, making it difficult to quiet our minds and hearts. But what about the internal noise that plagues us? How do we find peace and stillness within?
The Power of Silent Waiting
The Hebrew word “Damam” in Psalm 62:5 holds the key to understanding the importance of silent waiting upon God. It’s not about fussing, clamoring, or panicking; rather, it’s about faith, calm, peace, and stillness. This kind of waiting is only possible through the power of God’s grace working in us.
Submission: The Doorway to Peace
So, what’s our part in this silent waiting? We enter into it through the doorway of submission. When we submit to God’s will, we acknowledge Him as the One in charge of every detail of our lives. We pray, “Your will, not mine; Your agenda, not mine; Your purpose, not mine; Your timing, not mine.” This surrender brings us closer to God’s perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3).
A Heartfelt Prayer
Kathrina von Schlegel’s beautiful hymn, “Be Still My Soul,” echoes this sentiment. She urges us to find stillness in our “heavenly Friend”:
“Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.”
Trust and Total Surrender
As we fully lean upon God with complete trust and total submission, we can rest assured that He will keep us in perfect peace. In a world filled with noise and distractions, let us seek the stillness that only God can provide.
