Empowered by God’s Armor
As believers, we are commanded to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power (Ephesians 6:10-18). Our daily lives are a battleground, where we face spiritual warfare against the devil’s schemes. But we are not defenseless. We have access to the full armor of God, which enables us to stand firm against the enemy’s attacks.
The Enemy We Face
Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, and powers of this dark world, as well as the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. These fallen angels were cast down from heaven by the command of the true and living God, and they are subject to Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
The Armor of God
So, how do we prepare for this spiritual battle? We put on the full armor of God, which consists of:
- The Belt of Truth: Jesus Christ, the way, the truth, and the life, is our truth.
- The Breastplate of Righteousness: The sinless sacrifice of the Lord Jesus is our righteousness.
- The Sandals of Peace: The Lord Jesus is our peace, and His presence prepares us for the gospel of peace.
- The Shield of Faith: Jesus Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith, and He extinguishes all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
- The Helmet of Salvation: Jesus Christ is our salvation, and His mind guards our minds.
- The Sword of the Spirit: The Word of God, which is Jesus Christ, is our sword, and it never returns to Him void.
Clothed in Jesus
When we clothe ourselves in all of Jesus, we are empowered to pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. We can confidently declare, “No weapon formed against us will prevail, and we will refute every tongue that accuses us” (Isaiah 54:17). The One who was born of God keeps us safe, and the evil one cannot harm us (1 John 5:18).
Prayer of Victory
Father, our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, and powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. We stand in Your already-assured victory, and we put on our full armor in You. When the fiery darts come, we may be able to stand our ground. In the name of Jesus, amen.
