Embracing the Unknown: A Fresh Perspective on New Beginnings
As we step into a new year, God’s promise in Isaiah 43:18-19 echoes in our hearts: “(What I have done in the past) is nothing compared to what I’m going to do! I’m going to do a brand new thing.” This stirring declaration ignites our enthusiasm, and we can’t help but wonder what incredible things God has in store for us.
The Allure of New Beginnings
Who wouldn’t want to be part of God’s “brand new thing”? We pray fervently, anticipating a fresh work of God in our lives and in the world. The excitement is palpable, much like trying on those beautiful new shoes that promise to elevate our style. But, as we’ve all experienced, the initial thrill can wear off, leaving us with blisters and doubts.
The Reality of Sacrifice
As we ask for God’s new things, are we prepared for the potential sacrifices that come with them? Commitment is essential to embracing the unknown. The Apostle Paul’s transformation on the Damascus road was just the beginning of a journey that would take him through treacherous cities, raging storms, and dark prison cells. Yet, he persevered, learning to “press on” long after the novelty had worn off.
A Lifetime Decision
Father, as I contemplate the new things you want to do in and through me, help me understand that following you is a lifelong commitment. Thank you for staying with me even when the days are long and the newness has faded. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection and Prayer
As we embark on this new chapter, let us remember that God’s plans often require us to step out of our comfort zones. May we be willing to surrender our desires and expectations, trusting that His ways are higher than ours. May we, like Paul, learn to press on, even when the journey gets tough, and may we find joy in the unknown, knowing that God is always working something new and wonderful in our lives.
