Uncovering the Treasures of Turmoil
When life’s storms rage on, where do you turn for comfort? Do you recall running to a parent’s loving arms as a child, seeking solace from the thunder’s roar? In those moments, their nearness was enough to calm your fears. Today, when heartache and trials beset you, where do you find refuge?
The Father’s Presence in the Storm
The Bible asks, “Hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?” (Job 38:22b-23, KJV). These words invite us to reconsider our perspective on life’s turbulent times. Instead of viewing them as dark clouds sent by the enemy, what if they were opportunities to glorify God? Can we use these trials to praise Him, seek His will, and trust in His presence?
The Storm as a Sign of God’s Arrival
F. B. Meyer wrote, “A storm is only the outskirts of His robe—the symptom of His advent and the environment of His presence.” The darkness may seem overwhelming, but it conceals God’s presence, like the hem of His garment stirring up the atmosphere. As David said, “He made darkness His hiding place” (Psalm 18:11, NASB).
Treasures in the Eye of the Storm
Our troubles often bring blessings, as Charles Spurgeon noted. If God hides in the clouds, don’t His riches and blessings await us there? In the eye of the storm, we can find His guidance, peace, comfort, and glory. But do we seek all He has for us in these times?
Drawing Near to God
When dark clouds gather, don’t let heartache and discouragement settle in. Draw near to God, and find His treasures awaiting you. As an unknown author wrote, “Do not be afraid to enter the cloud that is settling down on your life – God is in it. The other side is radiant with His glory.”
Radiant Hope in the Storm
Remember, when turmoil looms over your life, it signals the advent of God’s presence. Trust Him, continue serving Him, and rest in His presence. You are never without hope, for He will never leave you lacking the assurance of His presence. He will see you through the storm, and meet you in the eye of the turmoil, saying, “Peace. Peace, be still!”
Your Hail Circumstance
What is your current stormy situation? Where does it send you? What is your treasure in the midst of turmoil? Take a moment to reflect on these questions, and may you find comfort in the Father’s presence.
