Embracing Eternal Belonging
The deep-seated desire to belong is a fundamental human need. We yearn for connection, for someone to love us, and to be part of something greater than ourselves. I still remember the heartfelt declaration of a new Christian, “I finally feel like I belong.” And what a profound sense of belonging it is – to be cherished by Jesus Christ for all eternity!
The Fleeting Nature of Human Connections
On this earth, our relationships with others are inevitably marked by separation and impermanence. We are separated from our loved ones by time, circumstances, and even death. This is the natural order of things. Yet, for those of us who have placed our faith in Christ Jesus, there is a reassuring promise: we belong to Him, not just for the duration of our earthly lives, but for eternity.
A Sense of Belonging that Transcends Time
The Apostle Paul beautifully captured this truth in Romans 8:38-39. Similarly, Norman J. Clayton’s hymn resonates with the same message: “Now I belong to Jesus, Jesus belongs to me, Not for the years of time alone, But for eternity.” We are part of God’s family, forever connected to our Savior and Lord.
Comfort and Assurance in Christ
What a comfort it is to know that we belong to Jesus, our loving Savior and best Friend! We are grateful for His unwavering love, His constant presence, and His provision for all our needs. May we fix our minds on Him, our Comforter, and bask in the assurance of our eternal belonging.
May this truth anchor our hearts, and may we radiate the joy and peace that comes from knowing we belong to Him.
