Confronting Sin: How God’s Law Leads Us to Jesus

The Unflinching Reflection of God’s Law

As we gaze into the mirror, we’re met with an unvarnished truth: our imperfections stare back at us, a reminder that we’re not as polished as we’d like to be. Yet, we don’t shy away from the mirror’s honest assessment. Instead, we confront our flaws, acknowledging the need for improvement. Similarly, God’s law serves as a spiritual mirror, revealing the depths of our sinfulness.

A Tutor to Lead Us to Jesus

The law of God isn’t meant to condemn us, but to guide us toward redemption. It’s a catalyst, sparking the realization that we’re incapable of achieving righteousness on our own. As Romans 5:20 reminds us, “The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more.” God’s law exposes our shortcomings, but it’s in this vulnerability that we’re drawn to the cross of Jesus Christ, where our sins are forgiven and our debt is paid in full.

The Futility of Self-Justification

Those who attempt to justify themselves by keeping the Ten Commandments are misguided. As James 2:10 warns, “Whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of all.” It’s only through accepting Jesus as our Savior that we can find true justification. The law of God is not a means to earn salvation, but a tutor that leads us to the narrow path of redemption.

A Call to Repentance

So, what do you see when you gaze into the mirror of God’s law? Do you see a reflection marred by sin and imperfection? Don’t be afraid to confront the truth. Instead, repent and turn to Jesus, who awaits with open arms. He won’t turn you away, for it’s His desire to forgive and redeem undeserving sinners.

A Heartfelt Expression of Gratitude

We thank our merciful Lord for revealing the truth about ourselves, even when it’s difficult to accept. We thank Him for His power and grace, which work in our hearts to bring us to repentance. And we thank Him for revealing Jesus, our Savior, who forgives and redeems us despite our shortcomings. Amen.

A Reflection of God’s Goodness

When God looks into our souls, what does He see first? Does He see our flaws and imperfections, or does He see the goodness of Christ? With Jesus in our lives, we can be confident that God sees the reflection of His Son’s righteousness.
