Unlocking the Power of Prayer
The Mediator Between God and Man
Jesus Christ is the sole mediator between us and God, and as such, He demands our total allegiance. This fundamental truth is reiterated in 1 Timothy 2:5, “There is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus.” It’s only through Jesus that we can establish a genuine connection with the Father.
From Uncertainty to Confidence
Before surrendering my life to Jesus Christ, I often prayed without knowing if God was listening or would respond. However, after inviting Him to be my Lord, I gained confidence that God was indeed hearing and answering my prayers. This transformation was not due to my education, wealth, church, or background, but solely because of my relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Credibility of Jesus’ Name
Jesus’ name is the only credential that holds weight with the Father. As Jesus Himself said, “If you ask anything in my name, I will do it” (John 14:14). While we may use various means to gain credibility with people, only Jesus’ name grants us credibility with God.
Maintaining a Clean Heart
A clean heart is essential for effective prayer. Psalm 66:18 reminds us, “If I had known of any sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened to me.” It’s crucial to confess our sins promptly, rather than waiting for a crisis or a church service. As 1 John 1:9 assures us, “If we confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Forgiveness: A Prerequisite for Prayer
Jesus emphasizes the importance of forgiveness in Mark 11:25, “Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive your transgressions.” We cannot harbor anger, hatred, or bitterness towards others and expect God to forgive us or hear our prayers.
The Power of Believing Prayer
Jesus promises, “And everything you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive” (Matthew 21:22). The act of asking God for our needs demonstrates our faith, and while the answers may not always come in the expected way, God always listens and responds. Sometimes, the answer is immediate; other times, we must wait. Occasionally, the answer is “No,” but God always has our best interests at heart.
