From Barely Alive to Thriving: A Lesson in God’s Tenacious Love
When life takes a devastating turn, it’s easy to feel like we’re barely holding on. Just like a struggling plant, we may appear wilted and worn out. But what if we could learn to see ourselves through God’s eyes? Would we realize that even in our darkest moments, we possess untapped potential?
A Plant’s Journey: A Reflection of God’s Care
Years ago, I received a Chinese evergreen as a gesture of sympathy after losing my husband. As I nurtured the plant, it flourished – until it began to decline. One by one, its leaves turned yellow and fell off, leaving only a single, torn leaf clinging to life. Despite its pitiful state, I couldn’t bring myself to discard it. Instead, I continued to care for it, talking to it, relocating it, and tending to its soil.
The Power of Persistence
Months passed, and to my surprise, a new leaf emerged, followed by a few more. However, the plant’s progress was slow, and it faced new challenges, including curious cats. Undeterred, I adapted my care, using vinegar to deter the pests and aerating the soil to promote growth. With time, patience, and dedication, the plant began to thrive once more.
A Spiritual Parallel
As I tended to my resilient plant, I heard God whispering a profound truth into my spirit: “Now you understand how I feel.” Just as I refused to give up on my struggling plant, God is even more tenacious in His pursuit of saving souls. He sees beyond our current state, recognizing the potential hidden within us. When life has left us battered and bruised, God’s loving Spirit nourishes us, props us up, and provides what we need to grow anew.
God’s Unwavering Commitment
Unlike us, God has the luxury of time. He won’t abandon us, even when we feel worthless or useless. Instead, He patiently cares for us, encouraging us to grow in His Spirit. His merciful nature ensures that we’re never beyond redemption, no matter how far we may have fallen.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Thank you, dear Lord, for your unwavering commitment to us. Thank you for seeing beyond our current struggles and recognizing the potential within us. We’re grateful for your loving, caring, and tenacious attitude towards us, even when we’re barely thriving. May we learn to grow in Your Spirit, and may Your love transform us into vibrant, thriving beings. Amen.
