Finding Strength in Uncertain Times
The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. (Isaiah 40:28-29)
As a military wife, I’ve experienced my fair share of grief and uncertainty. One particular incident that still resonates with me is the loss of a dear friend’s husband in an airplane crash. What made it even more devastating was that she witnessed the tragedy with her two young daughters. In the face of such unimaginable pain, how did she find the strength to cope?
Surrendering to God’s Power
In times of crisis, it’s natural to seek comfort and escape from our pain. We may turn to fleeting sources like substances, food, or other vices, but ultimately, they leave us feeling empty and unfulfilled. True comfort and strength can only be found by surrendering to God’s power and control. This means acknowledging our limitations and recognizing that Jesus is enough to meet all our needs and desires.
Moment-to-Moment Trust
Relying on God requires intentional, daily trust. It’s a conscious choice to acknowledge that everything we have is from Him and that He is sufficient to meet our every need. This trust is not a one-time decision, but a continuous process of surrendering to His will, even in the midst of uncertainty.
A Living Example
My friend’s story is a powerful testament to the sustaining power of God. Despite being consumed by grief, she chose to focus on God’s all-encompassing presence. Her example reminds us that our strength is not dependent on our own abilities, but on the Lord who gives us life, power, and wisdom.
A Prayer of Surrender
Heavenly Father, thank you for being enough for me. I acknowledge that you are the giver of life and that you have given me your Holy Spirit for strength, power, and wisdom. Forgive me when I have sought comfort in other things instead of you. I recognize my deep yearning for you alone. Amen.
