The Power of Patience in a Frustrating World
As I sped down the road, running late once again, I decided to take a shortcut. But my plan backfired. A car in front of me refused to turn right, despite its flashing signal, and I was left seething. It was as if they couldn’t see the obvious. But as I continued driving, every traffic light seemed to turn red just as I approached, and I found myself getting increasingly frustrated with the perceived faults of others.
A Lesson from Jesus
In Mark 10, Peter and the other disciples had a similar argument, debating who among them was the greatest. But instead of lashing out at them, Jesus patiently instructed them. This is a valuable lesson for us today. When we find ourselves short-tempered with those around us, Jesus wants us to reflect on the countless times he has been patient with us.
Imperfect People, Perfect Love
Christ knows all our mistakes, shortcomings, and failures, yet he continues to wait for us to change our ways and do better next time. Jesus loves imperfect people, and we should strive to do the same. We are all flawed, and God’s boundless patience should inspire us to be more loving and understanding towards others.
A Prayer for Patience
Lord, give me the grace to be more patient with others, especially when I feel worn down by life’s challenges. Help me to recognize when my thoughts become critical of others and replace them with thoughts of your kindness and patience. Amen.
The Source of Patience
Thankfully, we don’t have to manufacture patience on our own. The Holy Spirit, living within us, enables us to respond with patience as we trust in him. By surrendering to his guidance, we can become more patient and loving towards others.
