When God Feels Far Away
Have you ever felt like God was nowhere to be found? Like He had abandoned you in your time of need? You’re not alone. Even David, the great king of Israel, asked God why He seemed so distant in times of trouble (Psalm 10).
A Chance Encounter
I recently stopped at a fast food restaurant to grab a cold drink while running errands. As I walked in, I spotted a dear friend sitting at a booth, staring intently at her computer screen. Her brow was furrowed, and worry lines etched her forehead. I tried to get her attention, but she was too engrossed to notice me. When I finally got her attention, I saw a tear roll down her cheek. Her son had sent her some disturbing news via email. In that moment, she felt like God was far away.
The Question We’ve All Asked
Why does God seem so far away when we need Him most? Is it because He’s abandoned us, or is it because our own emotions and doubts have pushed Him out of our minds? The Bible reminds us that God is our refuge and strength in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). He’s always there, even when we can’t feel Him.
The Power of Faith
David’s faith helped him see God through his despair. He knew that God heard the desires of the afflicted and would strengthen their hearts (Psalm 10:17). God is a gentleman who waits to be invited into our situations. And sometimes, He uses unexpected means to bring us comfort and peace.
A Gentle Reminder
My chance encounter with my friend was a gentle reminder that God is always working behind the scenes. He may use a friend, a beautiful sunset, or a passage of scripture to remind us of His presence. All we need to do is look up from our troubles and ask Him to come into our situation.
Reflecting on God’s Presence
Take a moment to reflect on your current situation. If you looked up from your troubles right now, who would you see? Have you asked God to come into your situation and comfort you? Remember, God is always there, waiting to be invited in.
