Sacrificial Love: Walking in Jesus’ Footsteps

Embracing the Uncomfortable Path of Love

As followers of Christ, we are called to walk in the way of love, just as Jesus loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God (Ephesians 5:2). This is no easy feat, as it requires us to put others before ourselves and make sacrifices that may push us out of our comfort zones.

Sacrificial Love in Action

Jesus’ ultimate act of love was dying on the cross in obedience to God’s will, demonstrating the depth of his love for us. Similarly, when we choose to obey God’s will, even when it’s difficult, we offer a fragrant offering and sacrifice to Him. I recall a personal experience where I received a call from a sister in Christ who needed help. Despite feeling exhausted, I chose to visit her instead of simply praying over the phone. To God’s glory, she was strengthened by my presence. This encounter reminded me that God often asks us to go the extra mile to show His love to others.

Giving Ourselves to Others

Just as Jesus gave himself up for us, we are called to give ourselves to others in the Spirit’s strength. This may mean giving our time, lending a listening ear, or offering words of encouragement when least expected. Love demands that we put others first, even when it’s uncomfortable or inconvenient. When we fail to walk in love towards those God has placed in our path, we deny Him the fragrant offering and sacrifice He desires.

A Prayer for Sacrificial Love

Let us take a moment to reflect on our willingness to follow Jesus’ example of love. Dear Lord Jesus, please empower me to continually give myself for others in Your strength, knowing that Your Spirit provides all I need to obey. Amen.

Embracing the Challenge

Walking in love is not always easy, but it is essential to our Christian walk. As we strive to love others sacrificially, may we remember that our acts of love are a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. May we be willing to take the uncomfortable path of love, just as Jesus did for us.
