Finding Courage in the Face of Fear
As we stand at the edge of uncertainty, the waves of doubt crash against us, and the enemy’s taunts echo in our minds. Defeat seems inevitable, and our hearts cry out for a way of escape. We’ve been freed from the shackles of our past, but now we’re paralyzed by the fear of the unknown.
Longing for the Familiar
We yearn for the comfort of what we know, even if it means returning to the very things that once held us captive. “Anything but this,” we plead. “Take us back to the familiar, no matter how painful.” But God’s response is not what we expect. Instead of a battle plan or words of encouragement, He whispers, “Be still…the Lord will fight for you.”
The Unthinkable Command
What sea do you face today? What tyrant roars in your ear, threatening to destroy your faith? What enemies assail you with arrows of fear and discouragement? Before God gives us the green light to move forward, He asks us to pause, to stand firm, and to be still.
Gazing into God’s Face
In the stillness, we’re able to shut out the enemy’s lies and gaze into God’s loving face. We hear His gentle whisper, “I will fight for you.” It’s in these moments of quiet contemplation that we receive the strength to carry on.
Moving Forward
Only after we’ve stood still and listened to God’s voice do we receive the next instruction: “Move on.” And when we’ve crossed the uncrossable sea, we’ll join the chorus of those who have gone before us, singing, “The Lord is my strength and defense…He is my God and I will praise him…”
A Prayer for Patience
Loving Father, I confess my impatience. I’m prone to taking matters into my own hands, asking You to act according to my timeline. Help me to be still in the face of Your steadfast love. Teach me to trust in Your goodness and to wait on Your perfect timing.
