Finding Refuge in the Shadow of the Almighty
In a world filled with uncertainty and chaos, where do we turn for safety and refuge? The Psalmist David declares, “He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust him” (Psalm 91:1-2 NLT). But do our actions match our declarations? Do we truly trust in the Lord, or do our lives betray a lack of faith?
The Disconnect Between Words and Actions
We may proclaim our trust in God with our lips, but if our lives are marked by worry and anxiety, what does that say about our faith? When we attribute our successes to God, but then take credit for them ourselves, what does that reveal about our relationship with Him? It’s not that we shouldn’t publicly declare our gratitude and trust in God; it’s just that our words must be backed up by actions that point to Him.
Dwelling in the Presence of God
The blessings promised in Psalm 91 are not for all believers, but for those who live in close fellowship with God. Not all Christians dwell in the most holy place, where God’s presence is palpable. Some may run to Him occasionally, but they don’t habitually reside in His presence. Yet, for those who do, there is a promise of constant safety and security.
Resting in the Shadow of the Almighty
When we choose to dwell in the secret place of the Most High, we can abide under the shadow of the Almighty. We can find rest in His presence, knowing that He is our ultimate refuge and place of safety. He is our God, and we can always trust Him. As we navigate the challenges of life, may we learn to declare our trust in God with both our words and our actions. May we find refuge in the shadow of the Almighty, where we can rest in peace and security.
